چکیده

Here, we describe the first pterosaur remains from Angola, an assemblage of fourteen bones Lower Maastrichtian marine deposits Bentiaba, Namibe Province. One new species is introduced, Epapatelo otyikokolo, gen. et sp. nov., which comprises articulated partial left humerus and ulna as well radius (from a second individual). Phylogenetic analysis confirms non-nyctosaurid pteranodontian attribution for this taxon supports apomorphy-based clade, Aponyctosauria, here defined. Late Cretaceous pteranodontians are rare in Sub-Saharan Africa throughout Southern Hemisphere. Preliminary histological also reveals likely sub-adult age one specimens. This fossil provides glimpse Angolan paleobiodiversity providing further insight into Gondwanan ecosystems Upper Cretaceous.

Late Maastrichtian pterosaurs from North Africa and mass extinction of Pterosauria at the Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary

Pterosaurs were the first vertebrates to evolve powered flight and the largest animals to ever take wing. The pterosaurs persisted for over 150 million years before disappearing at the end of the Cretaceous, but the patterns of and processes driving their extinction remain unclear. Only a single family, Azhdarchidae, is definitively known from the late Maastrichtian, suggesting a gradual declin...

The paleoenvironments of azhdarchid pterosaurs localities in the Late Cretaceous of Kazakhstan

Five pterosaur localities are currently known from the Late Cretaceous in the northeastern Aral Sea region of Kazakhstan. Of these, one is Turonian-Coniacian in age, the Zhirkindek Formation (Tyulkili), and four are Santonian in age, all from the early Campanian Bostobe Formation (Baibishe, Akkurgan, Buroinak, and Shakh Shakh). All so far collected and identifiable Late Cretaceous pterosaur bon...

Early Cretaceous (berriasian) Birds and Pterosaurs from the Cornet Bauxite Mine, Romania

We revisit a small but extremely significant collection of bird and pterosaur bones from the Lower Cretaceous (Berriasian) of western Romania. These fossils were collected in the late 1970s and early 1980s from a Lower Cretaceous (Berriasian) conglomerate lens deep in a bauxite mine at Cornet, close to the city of Oradea, Romania, and they caused a sensation when first described. Some fossils w...

Tectonical history of Arabian platform during Late Cretaceous An example from Kurdistan region, NE Iraq

New simplified tectonic models and depositional history of Late Cretaceous rocks are established in a part of Zagros Orogenic Belt that is located in the Northeastern Iraq. These rocks constutes the most important Cretaceous oil reservoir in the Middle East. The dependent tools are petrography, field study and the concept of drowning phases. This concept is relatively new and accurate in explan...
